    Immediately after the completion of his residency in 1969, Dr. William Clayton Petty was sent to Vietnam by the US Army. Discharged after 23 years of service, he then pursued a civilian career in higher education after accepting his first position at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. Later in his career, he found himself serving as Professor of Anesthesiology where he taught residents the skills of anesthesia and as the Chairman of the Anesthesiology Department.

    "An anesthesiologist is a physician who administers general and regional anesthesia for patients undergoing surgery or other medical procedures in which they might experience pain," Dr. Petty noted. "My skills in administering difficult anesthetics to very sick and injured patients were sought after. I was also able to teach, very effectively, the skills necessary, to administer a safe anesthetic."

    Dr. Petty was so well-known for his work that he was sought after by many anesthesiologists throughout the world to lecture on numerous anesthetic subjects. Having always been dedicated to give the safest and best anesthetic he could to those who were sick, his devotion to serving others has been a strong influence in all he has done in medicine.

    Dr. Petty also served in the US Navy for 10 years, including Desert Storm. He holds an AS in Biology from The College of Southern Utah, a BS in Biology from the University of Utah, and an MD in Medicine from the University of Utah. He completed his internship in 1969 and has been Nationally Board Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology since 1971. A member of the American Society of Anesthesiology, Dr. Petty earned numerous accolades throughout his career, in both medicine and military, has given 473 lectures on anesthesia across 35 US states and 43 foreign countries, has served as a visiting professor 19 times, has written 18 chapters in multi-authored books, authored six books, published 164 scientific articles, and developed three video productions on anesthesia subjects.
