The selection recognizes Dorothy Curry's commitment to excellence in Non-Profit.
Curry, who founded her not-for-profit in 2009, is an organization that brings teenagers together with senior citizens to provide care giving and companionship. Because so many seniors do not have the help that they need, Curry wanted to find a way to make that happen, while at the same time help kids get a better appreciation of the older generation. The program includes activities that help seniors with everyday chores, while the seniors provide advice and encouragement through life experience to add value to their young lives.
Inspired after being hit by a car and spending two years in a nursing rehab, Curry desperately wanted to find a way to make it easier on other seniors.
"After a very serious personal accident I recognized the need to have people to help you, who really care and will take the time to learn what the client needs and wants," Curry explained about the formation of her non-profit.
