The selection recognizes David Galloway's commitment to excellence in Genealogy.

    David Galloway, who holds a BS in Chemistry from Tennessee Wesleyan College, an MS in Organic Chemistry from Western Carolina University, and a Doctorate in Chemical Education from Middle Tennessee State University, first became interested in family history as a child speaking to his grandparents about the past. After positions in his chosen profession in chemistry had become sparse in 1993, Mr. Galloway becoming actively involved in genealogical research.

    Now a full-time genealogist and owner of his business, Mr. Galloway collects information from all available sources and uses the data to compile charts of descendants featuring notes and sources. His area of interest include families of the southeastern US and African American genealogy and also has expertise in the area of interpreting Y-chromosomal DNA evidence to support family lines based on available documentation.

    Mr. Galloway's interest of science stems from his father who worked for NASA as a contractor in Brevard County, Florida in the late 1960's. Very thankful for to have learned his father's great work ethic and integrity, Mr. Galloway hopes to continue to grow and progress in the field of genealogy and to tackle projects of increasing complexity.

    Mr. Galloway has authored two books to date, "The Prices of Rutherford County" in 1999 and "The Descendants of John Ernest Price and Leanna Lively of Rutherford County, North Carolina" in 2013. He also authored an article, entitled, "Modern Science and It's Connection With Ancient Spiritual Traditions" in 2012. He also hopes to participate in more work as a professional lecturer.

    Involved in three professional organizations, Association of Professional Genealogists, American Chemical Society, and Alpha Chi National Society, Mr. Galloway was named Outstanding Senior in Chemistry through the American Chemical Society in 1978 and was the recipient of a Postgraduate Research Training Fellowship for the Morgantown Energy Technology Center through Oak Ridge Associated Universities in 1987. Recently, while living in the Village of Forest Hills in North Carolina, he organized the town archives into a coherent form eliminating duplicate documents, and transferred the images of the remaining documents to DVDs for archival storage. During his years as a chemist working for the Department of Energy research facility in Morgantown, West Virginia, Mr. Galloway developed the first analytical method to reproducibly analyze shale oil samples extracted from oil shale using colorimetry. He also carried out a study of the chemical reactions that occur in combusting oil shale samples. While associated with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, he modified the existing analytical method to improve the analysis for lead. At the University of Texas at Dallas, he successfully synthesized and purified a thiophene-based polymer to be used for the separation of oxygen and nitrogen at room temperature. While at Middle Tennessee State University, Mr. Galloway helped establish the Biodiesel Research Institute.
