  • Casper, WY (1888PressRelease) January 25, 2014 - Daphne B. Grimes, who holds a Bachelor's Degree in Drama from the University of Houston and a Master's Degree in English from Columbia University, began her career as a teacher of English, Art, and History, first in the US and then as director of the American Cooperative School in Tunisia. During that time, she met and married her husband Tommy, and after several years in Libya they were transferred to England. After a powerful visionary experience, Mrs. Grimes became deeply involved in many aspects of the Anglican Church.

After moving back to the US, Mrs. Grimes became an ordained minister with the local Episcopal Church in 1986. Following the death of her husband, she studied in Jerusalem and became a vicar for St. Andrew's Church in Meeteetse before founding Thomas the Apostle Center, an ecumenical retreat center that is situated on 300 acres that she owns just outside of Cody, Wyoming, which previously served as her family's ranch.

"My background in teaching and worldwide travels have given me an encompassing world view that greatly enhances my preaching and experience with many cultures and types of people that affect the empathy needed for my still active pastoral life," Mrs. Grimes said.

Still serving as an associate priest at the age of 84, as well as serving as a supply priest at several small towns in the area who can no longer afford a priest of their own, Mrs. Grimes's non-profit organization has grown to be a valuable asset for the Diocese of Wyoming programs, as well as other groups. She is still active with overseeing the financial support for Thomas the Apostle Center and is also still serving on the board of directors. Although somewhat homebound now, she continues with spiritual direction and biblical history teaching with various people who come to her.

Noting God as her chief inspiration, Mrs. Grimes hopes to be able to continue being an inspiration and help to others with whom she comes in contact. She is a professional artist and published poet, and has written and published a long journal account of her decades in and out of the Holy Land, called 'Journey to Jerusalem: Troubling Times in a Holy Land', which is available through Amazon.com. She is also a current member with Compass Rose Society and is the former spiritual director of the Community of Celebration in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania.
