The selection recognizes Christophe R. Berney's commitment to excellence in Healthcare and Laparoscopic Surgery.

    Licensed general surgeon Christophe R. Berney earned his diploma of general surgery in Switzerland in 1997 and in Australia in 2002. He also completed his PhD in Medicine in 1999 at the University of New South Wales. Now in private practice, C. R. Berney has been practicing medicine for over twenty years.

    As a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) attached to the Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital, C. R. Berney also works there as a general/laparoscopic surgeon. He serves as a conjoint associate professor at the University of New South Wales and is supervisor of surgical education and training for general surgery. C. R. Berney serves as committee member of the New South Wales Regional Board in General Surgery and as coordinator of Undergraduate Surgical Teaching as well.

    Having contributed significantly to the development and implementation of minimally invasive techniques at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital during his ten years working as a VMO C. R. Berney said, "I hope to further develop and extend the boundaries of minimally invasive surgery and transmit my surgical skills and expertise to the next generation of surgeons, both locally and overseas in developing countries."

    C. R. Berney has always wanted to become a surgeon and dedicate his professional life to the well-being of others. Growing up with a father, who is now a retired professor of neurosurgery, certainly had an influence on him. In fact, his older brother is also in the medical profession working as an academic transplant surgeon in Geneva, Switzerland.

    Now a board member with The College of Surgeons, C. R. Berney is also a member of the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery, European Association for Transluminal Surgery, European Hernia Surgery, General Surgeons of Australia, Extremely Highly Advanced Surgeons of CityChannel Netherlands, and Indian Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgeons. He's earned numerous awards, including a Tow Research Prize in 1996 from The Prince Henry and Price of Wales Hospitals, was named Tutor of the Year in 2011 from the University of New South Wales, and received three prizes as co-author of oral presentations in 2010, 2011, and 2012. When he isn't busy performing surgeries or teaching, C.R. Berney writes and publishes peer-reviewed articles in various surgical journals and presents personal, clinical research at international congresses.
