  • Portland-Vancouver, OR-WA (1888PressRelease) September 17, 2014 - Cheryl A. Virtue, Senior Accounting Assistant for the City of Salem, has been selected as an Executive of the Year Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.

    Cheryl A. Virtue, who holds a BS in Accounting with Honors from the University of Phoenix, and is planning to earn her MBA in Leadership and Management from George Fox College in December 2014, is a certified Computerized Accountant through Pioneer through Pacific College and a licensed Notary Public through the State of Oregon. She began working for the City of Salem in May 2001.

    Currently performing accounts receivable duties as a Senior Accounting Assistant, Mrs. Virtue does loan setup and servicing, collections, and complex reconciliations. For two years prior, she worked in general ledger preparing journal entries, analyzing transactions, performing bank reconciliations, journal importing and posting, reviewing and assisting preparation of fiscal financial reports, and debt service tracking. She is proficient in Oracle, Amanda, Word, Excel, and Power Point, among several other software programs. She is also cross-trained in Cashiering, Project/Cost Accounting, and Purchase orders in FIMS.

    "I have always loved numbers and figuring out how and why financial summaries come together," Mrs. Virtue admits. "As a child, my favorite game was Monopoly and I was always the banker. I also loved taking bookkeeping in high school."

    With the hopes of getting a financial accounting administration position where her 25+ years of financial experience and proven customer service and computer skills will be most beneficial, Mrs. Virtue wants to share her knowledge with co-workers, lead by example, and be able to network with other like-minded executives.

    Credited with having assisted in the implementation of a new CDM database system for the City of Salem and creating reconciliation procedures for the system, Mrs. Virtue has handled over $25 million in city loans and liens. She also worked on the Hansen project, converting thousands of utility accounts over to the new system from Legacy. She's also received numerous other awards throughout her career, including a Checker of the Year during her time with Molalla Thriftway. Prior to working in accounting, Mrs. Virtue worked for Golden Seal Sales as a Tupperware distributor, beginning in 1979. Her success with Golden Seal Sales earned her the use of a new car, many prizes, and monetary rewards.
