  • Reno-Sparks, NV (1888PressRelease) October 08, 2014 - Brian Callahan, Owner of Callahan's School of Music, has been selected as a Featured Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.

Brian Callahan began teaching in 1994 while he was still in college. He would work late hours stocking liquor in a local casino at night to put himself through school. It was a struggle to be in college classes by 9am the following morning. Heeding the advice of a colleague who suggested he teach piano lessons since there was a great need for male teachers in the industry, Mr. Callahan would be in charge of his own schedule while doing something he loved.

"I had no idea I would enjoy it this much," Mr. Callahan said. "I quickly discovered that I loved sharing my knowledge with others and had a great knack with motivating people, especially kids."

Fortunate enough to study with great teachers both as a child and extensively at the University of Nevada-Reno, Mr. Callahan offers three tiers of teaching: beginners, from as young as five to about 11-years-old starting in group classes, learning basic playing, finger skills, note-reading, and rhythms, and often include children with physical and emotional needs; advancing adolescents, which are grouped into smaller groups in a bit more private setting where they take turns on computers, practicing with headphones, and private instruction; and strictly private lessons, primarily with adults, just one student and him at a time, once a week for a half-hour.

Mr. Callahan is also a performer and songwriter. He performs locally in Reno with bands as well as solo. He has several sets of originals along with many covers. He loves to record and has a studio in his home where he spends a lot of time producing multitrack songs that he writes himself. He's put together a few soundtracks for interactive books and a movie style book trailer.

Hoping to continue teaching music for many more years, Mr. Callahan would like to someday expand and hire more teachers for other instruments and teach more hours himself. He feels very fortunate to be able to have such diverse studies because it allows for quite a bit of diversity in genres with his styles and songs.

Mr. Callahan was featured in the 2009 Reno Gazette Journal, 'Business Section: Piano Study Offers High-Tech Twist'. He was the music composer for two books in 2014, a children's book called 'Smelvin and Goulash Boy Soundtrack' and a second book called 'A Hitch at the Fairmont by Jim Averbeck Soundtrack'.

Mr. Callahan is a member of the Reno Radio Control Club. In his down time, he is often found spending time with his two teenage sons, flying model airplanes, skiing, and off-road motorcycle riding.
