  • Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) June 20, 2020 - The floral industry was immediately impacted by COVID19 restrictions as business dropped off for event planners, decorators, and floral shops throughout South Florida. Berkeley Florist Supply owner Morey Moss still struggles to keep his doors open despite the newly eased restrictions. The historical shop, established in 1947, is the oldest and largest wholesale florist supply company in the area. He somehow managed to keep all 30 of his staff employed but is now unsure what the future holds.

“We had to close for six weeks, for the protection of our customers and employees,” says Morey Moss. “Events weren’t taking place due to social distancing and the need for flowers for weddings, receptions, parties or even funerals significantly diminished. Our coolers were full of beautiful spring flowers, which we gave away.”

Morey turned his loss around into an act of kindness. He donated more than $15,000 worth of flowers to first responders after he closed. “I was just so grateful for their tireless efforts and wanted to show my appreciation.”

Morey has seen the market in South Florida dramatically expand throughout the decades into a thriving industry. However, the pandemic has seriously changed the business and he wonders how many shops, distributors and wholesalers will survive. He is currently considering new opportunities and recently starting collaborating with a branding and digital marketing company. Together they launched a daily show on Instagram to bolster local businesses.

“The objective is to help the floral community but we encourage everyone in the event planning industry to tune in connect with other industries,” says Sahid Nahim, owner of New Bloom Solutions. “We offer useful and helpful information on the show, guest speakers include leading experts that contribute ideas and provide suggestions. The main purpose is to motivate, inspire and keep the Florida event industry connected and moving forward. The response has been terrific, many credit the show for helping them keep their doors open because of the many marketing tips and inspiration.”

Sahid hopes the floral industry will step into a new era of innovation and growth. He started a new initiative, #floweryourweekend, intended to not only help the South Florida economy but uplift and unify the community as well. “We believe this will catch on and motivate people to go out and support each other and all local businesses,” says Sahid.

“Despite restrictions being lifted, many people are still isolated due to their health and flowers can really brighten a person’s day,” says Morey. “We hope people will support their local florists.” Morey continues to acknowledge first responders for their bravery and dedication with a 10% discount.
