Coquitlam Express Stars Set to Follow in Yip, Turris and Lucic's Footsteps

  • (1888PressRelease) February 12, 2011 - Coquitlam, Canada - The Coqiutlam Express is maintaining its reputation as the ideal team for hockey players with the skills and drive to continue past Junior stages, with five post-secondary commitments secured for Coquitlam Express players since the beginning of the season.

    Jared Eng is the latest Coquitlam Express player to be signed, making a post secondary commitment with Sacred Heart University Division I in Fairfield Connecticut.

    Several notable Coquitlam Express ice hockey players w=have also been drafted earlier in the season, including:

    Destry Straight: Straight was signed by Boston College, with the potential to follow in the footsteps of Milan Lucic who currently plays in the NHL for the Boston Bruins.

    Garrick Perry: Perry's scoring line at the time of his recruitment to the Alaska Nanooks was 8-12-20, and he had improved his point production from 0.7 to 0.9 per game over two seasons.

    Brad Reid: Reid committed to Rochester Institute of Technology for the 2011/2012 season, after being named the MVP, Top Forward and Top Scorer for the Coquitlam Express in 2009/2010.

    Massimo Lamacchia: Lamacchia landed an envied spot with Ivy League school Brown University, after racking up 26 goals and 28 assists in a short 48 games. Lamacchia will be accompanied by Aaron Volpatti of the Vancouver Canucks.

    The Coquitlam Express Junior 'A' Hockey Club began their history as proud members of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) in 2001 under an ownership group of hockey enthusiasts and led by Vancouver Canuck Alumni Darcy Rota. The BCHL prides itself on the opportunities it presents to its players to earn scholarships to further their education at highly reputable US Colleges while continuing their dream of playing hockey in the National Hockey League (NHL). The Express have helped produce many players who have moved on to NCAA Scholarships and later the NHL including David Jones (Colorado Avalanche), and Brandon Yip (Colorado Avalanche).

    The Express were league and national champions in 2006, with the team led by Kyle Turris; Turris currently plays for the Phoenix Coyotes and is the highest drafted Junior A player in history. Other Express alumni to enter into the NHL ranks include Milan Lucic (Boston Bruins) and Andrew Ladd (Atlanta Thrashers).

    The Express are pleased to be back home in Coquitlam playing out of the newly renovated Poirier Sports & Leisure Complex and look forward to building their involvement in the local communities, charities, schools, and playing for their home fans.
