  • (1888PressRelease) June 28, 2012 - Orchard Medical Group, located in Skokie, IL, has been specializing in internal medicine since 1985, focusing on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of adult diseases. This achievement will help Orchard Medical Group continue in its mission to provide accessible, safe and high-quality care to its communities through the leveraging of health information technology.

The six providers who successfully achieved meaningful use in May are Greg Denenberg MD, Matthew J. Fischer MD, Cliff Ireland DO, Gregory Kaczmarek MD, Stephen Kashian MD, and Joseph P. Wyse MD. Kathy Fisher, MD and Vandana Jain MD are scheduled to attest to Stage 1 Meaningful Use by June. Each physician will be eligible to receive up to $44,000 over five years in Medicare incentives for adopting electronic medical records in their practice.

Consulting firm Technical Doctor Inc. assisted the physicians in adopting an electronic health records (EHR) system. It provided project management for implementation of the EHR, on-site coaching, vendor coordination, consultation and other activities to assure that the physicians were able to use the EHR system in a manner that meets meaningful use standards.

"We couldn't have done it without IL- HITREC and their consulting team Technical Doctor!" said Joanne Schroeter, office manager, Orchard Medical Group.

"The success achieved by Orchard Medical Group is exactly what the Regional Extension Center is supporting across the state," said Susan O'Keefe, manager, IL-HITREC Northeast Satellite Office at MCHC. "We work with physicians every step of the way to help them implement EHRs with the goal of improving the quality and value of the care they provide to their communities."

Roger Holloway, Co-Director of IL-HITREC, said "This is a significant achievement and IL-HITREC congratulates Orchard Medical Group."

IL-HITREC is one of 64 Regional Extension Centers in the U.S designated by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC). The Regional Extension Centers were established as part of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act that was signed into law by President Obama in 2009. The HITECH Act authorizes the CMS to provide reimbursement incentives for physician and hospital providers who demonstrate the meaningful use of an EHR.

To attest to meaningful use, eligible physicians must demonstrate adaptation, implementation, upgrading, or meaningful use of certified Electronic Health Record (EHR) technology for the meaningful use objectives and attest that they have successfully met the requirements of the program. Once eligible physicians have successfully completed an online submission through the CMS attestation system, they can qualify for either Medicare or Medicaid EHR incentive payments.
Statewide, IL-HITREC is helping 1,300 priority primary care providers meet Meaningful Use criteria. For more information, contact Roger Holloway, Co-Director of IL-HITREC, at (815) 753-5900 or rholloway ( @ ) niu dot edu dot
