  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) May 25, 2011 - Company of Angels presents "Bordering on Love," a new play by L.A native Evangeline Ordaz, directed by Armando Molina. The play opens June 4 at Company of Angels at The Alexandria 501 S. Spring Street., 3rd Floor, Downtown L.A, CA 90013. Beauty can be a drag... or a ticket to citizenship. But, is there room for love in this pageant world? In the platonic love comedy, Bordering on Love, a drag queen beauty pageant contestant faces the loss of his Latina stylist when she faces deportation.
It's a real defense of marriage with a drag queen chorus.

Playwright Evangeline Ordaz, was inspired by the fact that the federal government only attempts to define marriage in two instances - if you're gay or an immigrant. And the definition of marriage in the immigration context would also seem to validate gay marriage. This irony inspired a story that explores the fiction of law in the face of human love and desire.

The seed for this play was planted during a writing exercise in the Company of Angels Playwrights' Group. Evangeline wrote the play during a nine month invitational workshop at the Center Theater Group (Mark Taper Forum, Kirk Douglas Theater, Ahmanson). Company of Angels further developed the play during its bi-annual playwrights' retreat last August.

"Bordering on Love" features Christian R. Gibbs, Kamil Haque, Rudy Marquez, Anne McCarthy, TJ O'Connell, Kenneth Sears, Silvia Tovar and Jeff Vinall.
