  • (1888PressRelease) October 07, 2016 - Elizabeth, NJ - Community Access Unlimited (CAU) has been chosen as Honoree at the Public-Private-Partnership Awards ceremony hosted by NJBIZ and The NJ League of Municipalities. The award reception took place at Iberia Restaurant in Somerset, NJ. Joining CAU at the reception was Mayor Colleen Mahr of Fanwood. CAU received this award for the 2014-2015 Terrill Road Road/Fanwood Project.

Beginning in 2014, the Terrill Road Project began when Community Access Unlimited purchased two lots - an uninhabitable house at 535 Terrill Road in Scotch Plains and a lot that was previously a tavern and liquor store at 193 Terrill Road in Fanwood, NJ. Both structures were demolished and combined to build the facility.

Completed in 2015, the Terrill Road Project (now Fanwood Project) is currently a mixed-use building situated on the border of Scotch Plains and Fanwood, NJ. The building comprises 10 units of housing and two available commercial spaces available to rent. The property is fully accessible and features an automatic backup generator in case of an emergency.

Community Access Unlimited partnered with several organizations for the Terrill Road Project. These include the TD Charitable Foundation, Valley National Bank, City of Fanwood, and the Township of Scotch Plains. These supporters believe in the mission of CAU and are committed to supporting affordable housing projects.

The Township of Scotch Plains and Fanwood have both been enhanced by the project as the building's aesthetic improves the appeal of the surrounding neighborhood. The City of Fanwood now boasts additional affordable housing units which enhance the property values around the area.

The project is unique in that it provides integrated, affordable housing for individuals with developmental disabilities and for people in the community while also revitalizing a piece of neighborhood that was rundown and abandoned.
