Düsseldorf. The globalisation is increasing competitive pressure in the logistics industry. Goods must be transported over greater distances safely and just in time, which is why companies seek solutions that save both time and money. Handheld terminals and scanners for mobile data collection help here: They gather mobile data fast and employees profit from the numerous advantages. DENSO, part of the Toyota group and inventor of the QR Code, will soon introduce their innovative BHT-1700 series to the market. The smart and ergonomic Android 7.1.2 handheld terminal is available in six models, one of them being a special long-range model with a GunGrip. “With our Android BHT-1700 long-range model with a GunGrip, products can be scanned up to a distance of ten metres – especially useful for logistics and warehousing where this is an outstanding advantage,” says Sina Haupt, Marketing Assistant at the DENSO Auto-ID Business Unit. “The BHT-1700 Android handheld terminal is, in addition, equipped with an extra-large display: Its 4’’ mega display offers a multitude of features,” she continues. In fact, with its numerous features, the BHT-1700 Android handheld terminal is designed for big challenges and to help reduce the processes for users in logistics and warehousing, for example, to a minimum. Further information on secure handheld terminals and hand scanners with Android, solutions for mobile data collection, the QR Code and SQRC®, as well as the DENSO Auto-ID Business Unit are available at https://www.denso-autoid-eu.com/en.html.

Great in every detail – highlights of the BHT-1700 Android Handheld Terminal

When it comes to the BHT-1700 Android long-range device, it is the multitude of features that makes it the new dimension for the user’s business. The innovative device for mobile data collection reads 1D and 2D codes from as close as 35 millimetres – even if they are damaged. OCR (optical character recognition) is also supported. “The long-range model offers an additional advantage in comparison to the other models of the BHT-1700. As it can scan up to a distance of ten metres, it is especially suitable for large warehouses where goods are often difficult to reach. The GunGrip helps point the handheld terminal in the right direction without having to twist one’s hand,” explains Haupt. Another important feature in addition to the ergonomic GunGrip and the 4” mega display, is the separate CPU of the BHT-1700 Android handheld terminal: It makes the non-stop scanning from up to ten metres possible even when the central unit is running at full capacity. Even the weight of the new Android handheld terminal is an advantage in comparison to other mobile data collection devices: The long-range model weighs only 438 grams, despite the GunGrip. But if a user drops the mobile data collection device unexpectedly, there is no reason to worry. It survived drops from heights of up to two metres.

The combination of a touch panel and keyboard on a new scale

The BHT-1700 Android handheld terminal is equipped with Android 7.1.2 (Nougat) and it is ergonomically designed with the GunGrip. Handling the handheld terminal is also much easier compared to other mobile data capture devices: The touch panel is easy to operate, and side-mounted magic keys offer an additional advantage as frequently used apps can be controlled easily. This makes the handheld terminal for mobile data acquisition even faster and easier to use, which is a great help not only in logistics and warehousing, but also in inventories in the retail area for example. Another great help is the extra-large display of the BHT-1700: With it being 4’’ in size, it puts the BHT-1700 more or less at the maximum limit for a handheld terminal with keyboard. “At DENSO, we wanted to know how big the display of a handheld with keyboard could really be – and the BHT-1700 is the answer,” says Haupt. The 4’’ mega display is particularly protected in order to be robust: It is fitted with crack-resistant Asahi Dragontrail™ Pro glass as standard, which is one of the best in the industry and especially useful in logistics and warehousing.

Energising, Optimising, and Accelerating with the BHT-1700 Android Handheld Terminal

The Android BHT-1700 long-range model is configured to speed the users’ processes to the max, from the receipt of goods to checking the inventory. The large display shows the user all important data at a glance – for greater transparency and shorter response times. Since the handling is also massively simplified, especially with the GunGrip and magic keys, the BHT-1700 long-range model can optimally support its users in logistics. The warehouse management can be energised by optimizing the supply management and order picking in large warehouses with the BHT-1700 with its GunGrip. The production can also be optimised with the Android BHT-1700 handheld terminal, since the user can track production data on the 4” mega display and update them via the keyboard. Last but not least, the rack management can also be accelerated, as the user can view large volumes of items on the display and forward them using a magic key. Simply DENSO quality – because users deserve better

Innovation simply for the sake of innovating is not what DENSO, part of the Toyota group and inventor of the QR Code, is about. All in all, the new Android long-range handheld terminal offers robustness and durability, even in the harshest conditions. The BHT-1700 works at extreme temperatures from -20 to +50° Celsius and it is IP67-certified. Its touchscreen is easy to use with wet fingers, gloves or a pen. It cannot only be used easily but also for a long time, since its battery life is perfect for long working hours. The BHT-1700 long-range handheld terminal has passed all of DENSO’s quality tests and stands for quality beyond the norm. “We don’t just claim this, we guarantee it,” says Haupt. In case something does not work smoothly, DENSO, part of the Toyota group and inventor of the QR Code, offers its customers a three year warranty on the BHT-1700. “We are very excited about the launch of our new Android handheld terminal and are confident that the BHT-1700 will also delight our customers, some of whom we have been working with for more than 20 years,” Haupt sums up.
