    The founder and host of a weekly comedy show in New York City is bringing his act on the road this Fall for a good cause. Jamie Roberts is teaming up with three other comics for a night of laughs in an effort to raise awareness and funds for the research of diabetes.

    Roberts is continuing his successful Comedy with a Purpose series at the Cinema Café Theatres in Hampton, VA, Friday, November 5, 2010. Roberts has assembled a star-studded lineup of stand-up comics to raise money for the American Diabetes Association.

    Featured performers include: Hampton University almuni Jamie Roberts (MTV, Sunday Night Live NYC) and Gena Pemberton (BET, Carolines on Broadway). Also performing on the show are Vladimir Caamano (Standup 360, NY Comedy Festival) and Damien Lemon (NBC's Standup for Diversity).

    "With November being the National Diabetes Awareness Month, we're happy to be putting together a comedy show with this caliber of talent for a good cause," said Roberts, the founder and host of Sunday Night Live, a weekly show held at the famed New York Comedy Club. "Diabetes is a debilitating disease that affects millions each year. We want to do our part to contribute and help raise awareness."

    Twenty-five percent of net ticket sales from the show will be donated to the American Diabetes Association to further their efforts to discover new means to detect, treat, and cure Diabetes

    Considering that 24 million children and adults in the United States live with diabetes, 57 million Americans are at risk for type 2 diabetes, and 1 out of every 3 children born today will face a future with diabetes if current trends continue (Centers for Disease Control Prevention, 2007). Diabetes can lead to potentially life-threatening complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, blindness and amputation.

    The Cinema Café Theatres is located at 1044 Von Schilling Drive. Doors open at 8:30 PM with a show time of 9:00 PM. Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased online at www.comedywithapurpose.com.
