Local Koreatown comedy venue, Tao Comedy Studio is hosting over 160 female-forward comedians from all over the world during the week-long Laugh Riot Grrrl Comedy Festival.

Inspired by the Riot Grrrl punk rock feminist movement, the festival seeks to encourage feminist voices in comedy and showcases a huge roster of women and LGBTQIA2S+ talent.

Running June 6 - 13, the festival also features workshops, roundtable discussions, healing meditations, and pastries from the female-owned bakery, Period Pastries.

Tao Comedy Studio prides itself on being an intersectional feminist comedy space.

Intersectional Feminism is concerned with issues surrounding violence against women; BIPOC; and the LGBTQIA2S+ community; reproductive freedom; body autonomy; equal pay; and equal political, social and economic opportunities; and equal civil rights for ALL people and an understanding that feminism that does not include women of color and the entire LGBTQIA+ community is not true feminism.

Because of Tao Comedy Studio’s inclusivity, it won LA Weekly’s Best of LA and Open Mic Reviews’ Best Safe Space Mic and Best Place To Do Your First Set.
