  • (1888PressRelease) December 09, 2015 - AutoTrader.co.za has teamed up with Qhubeka, World Bicycle Relief's charity programme in South Africa, to combine an innovative fundraising campaign with some vibrant public art. The campaign results can now be seen out and about, bringing a splash of colour to South Africa's roads.

A competition last month searched for line drawing designs that were transferred onto a 50-strong fleet of AutoTrader cars. These were then taken to shopping malls around the country. Members of the public were invited to donate R50 to Qhubeka in return for the chance to colour in a section of the design with pens, as part of a campaign to help bring much-needed bicycles to children and adults in some of Africa's most rural communities.

The completed designs can now be seen on AutoTrader's fleet of cars travelling around South Africa as a set of collaborative, unique pieces of mobile 'street art'. People are urged to send in photos or tweets of any cars they spot on the move or parked up. Each unique tweet received with the hashtag #DriveChange will generate a further R2 for Qhubeka to help them continue their work supplying bicycles where they are needed most.

Thousands of children in rural Africa walk to school daily, along dusty roads that continue for miles. Using a bicycle means that they can cut their journey time by up to 75%, leaving them more energy to study and more time to devote to their school work. It can also help them and their families access better healthcare, shops and community services.

Since World Bicycle Relief was founded ten years ago, the charity has delivered more than 222,000 bicycles to the people who need them most. In return, recipients pledge to work to improve communities, the environment and their own academic results.

AutoTrader is South Africa's leading market-place for buying and selling cars, bikes and commercial vehicles. A huge range of new and second-hand vehicles are advertised across the country with hundreds of makes and models in stock at any one time.
