  • Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) March 10, 2011 - The Colorado Women Self-Defense is proud to offer a free, 2-hour self-defense clinic for single women and moms to residents in Westminster, Broomfield, Thornton, Erie and other surrounding areas on Saturday, April 2nd from 10am to 12pm MST.

The Colorado Women Self-Defense is a division of The Dojo of Karate & Fitness, a martial arts and fitness school operating in Westminster for 3 years.

The 2-hour self-protection seminar will be conducted by owner and Chief Self-Defense instructor, Javier Lozano, Jr.

Javier has over 20 years of martial arts experience, with 17 plus years of practical teaching knowledge to kids, teens, and adults in both small and large group settings.

He has taught Women Self-Defense classes throughout Colorado to corporations, government agencies, non-profit groups, and other organizations in the community.

Javier is also a former professional athlete and world champion fighter and Colorado State champion fighter.

During this 2-hour self-defense workshop, you can expect to learn the importance of being aware of your surrounding and how to avoid a potential assault. This is critical to learning real self-defense.

From there, you will begin to train how to defend yourself against an attacker by executing proper empty hand strikes, kicks, and blocks. These techniques are used on state-of-the-art training equipment and practicing with a partner. This is the best way to gain real knowledge on how to defend yourself.

After you've gone through the basics of striking and blocking, you'll be taught various self-defense escapes from grabs and chokes to protection against a potential sexual assault. These escapes are extremely easy to memorize and perform, yet very effective against most attackers

At the end of the 2-hour seminar, you should have gained enough knowledge and training experience to make wiser decisions and become less of a victim. The goal is to give you a fighting chance to protect yourself.

At the last seminar hosted in November 2010 there were 30 women who participated in this workshop, so spots fill up quickly. We recommend you contact us as soon as possible in order to guarantee your spot.

Many people ask the common question… "so why are you hosting a free self-defense clinic?"

"My goal as a business owner is to give back to the community", say's Lozano. "Whether it's through free services by conducting a seminar, hosting food drives for local food banks, or raising money for organizations in need, I try to give back as much as possible. The more other benefit, the stronger we become as a community. And, with my experience and credentials, I feel I can offer more to my clients and residents."

Lozano is a certified Level II Combat Science Systems instructor, the only one in Colorado, as well as a certified Women Self-Defense Instructor and Child Safety Instructor.

His qualifications are recognized by co-founders Jim Mahan (former military trainer) and Mike Massie (entrepreneur) of MASIA - one of the leading martial arts, fitness, and self-defense organizations in the country.

Coach Lozano has been offering these free workshops for a few years and tries to host 3 to 4 free women self-defense seminars per year.

If you would like to reserve your spot for the Saturday, April 2nd seminar from 10am to 12pm, please contact The Dojo of Karate & Fitness at 303-920-4500.
