  • (1888PressRelease) April 27, 2013 - Over the course of the three day conference, attendees heard from the Ministry of Mines & Energy, Ecopetrol, ANH, DIMAR and leading international operators and service providers from around the world. Discussions focused on the exploration of new offshore and unconventional basins, gas market incentives, infrastructure, transport, environmental issues and new operational licenses as key areas for the development of the Colombian energy industry.

    As part of Ecopetrol's efforts to develop the Colombia's energy potential, the company's President, Dr Gutierrez announced at the summit that they are aiming to drill 135 exploratory wells by the end of the year 2013.

    Offshore operations and environmental issues took centre stage throughout the summit, and were discussed at length by Ernesto Durán González, Director General Marítimo, DIMAR. Amongst other issues, he mentioned the need for progression of offshore and environmental protection licenses and for international companies to increase learning and training opportunities for local professionals.

    Running alongside the strategic conference, the exhibition brought together an exclusive display of the very latest technologies, products and services from over 59 exhibiting companies. The technical seminars in the exhibition provided the opportunity for visitors to debate and review best available technologies and their specific application, with presentations from leading industry companies including: Schlumberger, Mansarovar, ANP, ANH, Ecopetrol, Technip, Merrick, Foster Wheeler Upstream, Adrialpetro Petroleum Services.

    As Colombia's oil and gas industry recognizes the importance of reserve replacement in addition to increased production from unconventional and offshore basins, it is clear that significant opportunities for future investment remain.
