  • Salinas, CA (1888PressRelease) November 29, 2012 - Artist Cody Land and his Dogs on Glass team up with Monterey Peninsula Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center (MPVESC) and The Hope Center of Monterey December 16th!

Cody Land, pet portraiture artist and creator of Dogs on Glass is joining in with the Monterey Peninsula Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center (MPVESC), and The Hope Center of Monterey, to support our four legged friends in need!

Cody will be on hand to demonstrate and explain his artistic process for capturing your pet on glass. 10% of the proceeds from reservations for portraits reserved that day will go to The Hope Center in support of their mission of establishing a food pantry to serve the Monterey Peninsula.

Cody has a very unique artistic process that truly captures the spirit and soul of pets. He fuses his natural artistic talent, the skill of a master craftsman, and a passion for dogs to create his own unique art form. Cody started out studying pre-veterinary medicine at Texas A & M, switched his major to zoology then left for the greener pastures of California and work as a finish and restoration carpenter.

During the winter months when carpentry work slowed, he began to study the craft of making stained glass. Cody's eye for architecture and his consummate skill for intricate detail landed him numerous commissions, including "The Bird Windows" in Carmel (NE corner of Ocean and Dolores).

Cody then began experimenting with a process that combined his interest in photographic portraiture with his desire to continue working with glass. Over the next few years, he began to develop a process whereby a photographic portraiture could be silkscreened using ceramic paint on to glass, then fired in a kiln - permanently fusing the two. The "Aha!" moment came in the fall of 2011 when Cody's girlfriend Deborah asked if he would design and make a portrait of her French bulldog. The completed portrait now stands in a playful Tinkertoy frame.

Save the date for Sunday, December 16th! Have your pet's photo taken and reserve a photo on glass - to last a lifetime! Remember, 10% of every "Dogs on Glass" reservation goes to the Hope Center. Holiday Gift Certificates are available. And - there will be treats on site for both 2 legged and 4 legged friends.
