  • (1888PressRelease) October 28, 2010 - Clean Energy (Yorkshire) has launched a Planning Support Division which is aimed specifically at guiding people through every key stage of the planning process, from submitting an application through to the actual installation.

The company, based in Harrogate, has a wealth of experience in this area, having recently completed a scheme to install solar energy in public toilets in Knaresborough, where the building was in the heart of a conservation area.

It has worked successfully with a number of home owners in the North York Moors National Park, providing them with a wind turbine, and has fitted a number of green energy solutions to a Grade 2 Listed properties in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Clean Energy (Yorkshire) managing director Spencer Cassidy said: "Most properties won't need planning permission to have a green energy system installed. However, Listed Buildings and those in conservation and sensitive areas do.

"Because of this, there is a perception among people who fall into this bracket that they simply won't get planning permission. That is why we have launched our Planning Support Service.

"We understand the planning process and work closely with planning officers. When it comes to these types of applications there are a number of factors to take into consideration. The main ones being visual impact and perceived harm to the building or the area it is situated in.

"A recent installation in one Conservation Area saw us fitting solar tiles instead of solar panels. This was because they sit flush to the roof, thus reducing any visual harm to the area."

Mr Cassidy added: "The planning constraints we are referring to aren't just restricted to domestic properties. They apply to commercial and public buildings too.

"More often than not, where there is a specific requirement in planning terms, we will be able to provide a solution that not only reduces energy bills and reduce a building's carbon footprint, but also preserve the look and character of the structure and the area it is situated in.
