  • Trenton-Ewing, NJ (1888PressRelease) August 01, 2012 - Demand for adult social day programs in New Jersey continues to grow, along with the state's estimated 1.13 million seniors and an ever-expanding Baby Boomer population. To bridge the widening gap between at-home and residential senior living among this demographic, The Clare Estate now offers older adults peer companionship and caregiver respite through Clare's Corner, a social day program.

Available Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Clare's Corner is designed to enrich each participant's life by building upon his or her skills, knowledge and abilities. Diverse programming includes therapeutic art, discussion groups, cultural performances, music appreciation and low-impact exercise. Breakfast and lunch also are included in the modest daily fee.

"Clare's Corner is a win/win for the entire family, from the participants to their caregivers, who may be a spouse or an adult-age child working outside of the home or raising a family," said Cathy Chabala, Marketing Director. "The planned activities and social events motivate and support each member to be as active - in mind and body - as possible."

According to Program Director Donna Buyukaydin, there are numerous benefits associated with adult social day programs. In addition to providing a safe, secure environment, Clare's Corner incorporates planned enjoyable and educational activities designed to enhance cognitive and physical health as well as independence.

"Socialization and peer support are the leading reasons families choose a social day program," added Alyson Mulryne, executive director of The Clare Estate, an assisted living community. "While honoring each participant's wish to remain at home, for as long as possible, we are able to cultivate companionship and heightened physical and cognitive activity."

Mulryne also noted enrollment in Clare's Corner can pave the way for a future move to The Clare Estate, should the need arise. "Thanks to the strong friendships forged between adult social day program participants and full-time senior residents, many opt to make a move to an atmosphere that is familiar and comforting," she said.

Established in 2001, The Clare Estate is a fully licensed assisted living residence housed in the former St. Clare's Monastery, located on Crosswicks Street. The community is staffed 24 hours a day by a multi-disciplinary team, including registered and licensed practical nurses, certified medication aides and certified nurse assistants; recreation therapists; and support staff. Residents also enjoy a host of amenities, such as medication management, planned outings to local venues, housekeeping and laundry services, chef-prepared meals and on-site physician services.

The Clare Estate is owned and managed by Community Investment Strategies, Inc., an award-winning fully integrated real estate organization specializing in multi-family housing, including 55+, senior housing and mixed-use redevelopments, as well as market-rate and affordable housing. The Lawrenceville-based company is a certified woman-owned business enterprise (WBE) with a diverse portfolio of more than 3,000 units throughout New Jersey valued in excess of $350 million.

Clare's Corner welcomed its first members in late July. Advance enrollment, for a minimum of three days per week, is required for the adult social day program.
