  • (1888PressRelease) January 28, 2014 - With the goal of further developing the next generation of Chinese hockey players, the CIHL provides opportunities for Hong Kong's brightest talents to gain experience playing full contact hockey on a weekly basis. The partnership with the Express - a first in Hong Kong - provides a unique opportunity for young players to further develop their skills.

Select CIHL players, many who are part of or graduates of the U18 national programme, will participate in the Express Prospect Camp from May 7-9, 2014 in Coquitlam, BC, where they will be evaluated alongside Express recruits.

"The CIHL is delighted to announce our partnership with the Coquitlam Express," CIHL co-founder and director Greg Smyth said. "One of the CIHL's goals is to continue to raise the bar on the sport in Hong Kong and providing top talents with the opportunity to gain experience playing in Canada will no doubt help players further develop their hockey skills while also contributing to the growth of the CIHL."

Four teams currently compete in the CIHL: the 2012-2013 CIHL champions RBC South China Sharks, the Asia Xpat Kowloon Warriors, the Quam Hong Kong Tycoons and the Galaxy Macau Aces who currently hold top spot in the CIHL. In addition to its signature brand of exciting contact hockey, the league is committed to developing hockey in Hong Kong at all levels, from the RBC Adopt a School Program to the CIHL Intern Program, which provides opportunities for talented student athletes to live and work in Hong Kong while continuing their hockey careers.

The CIHL and Coquitlam Express partnership creates additional opportunities for Hong Kong's up and coming players, many whom make critical contributions to their teams week in and week out.

"This partnership will enable some of our great young CIHL talents to gain experience playing hockey in Canada and to work to elevate their level of play," Smyth said. "We are excited to be able to offer them this opportunity and look forward to seeing how it helps them grow as players."
