  • (1888PressRelease) June 14, 2013 - Recent research conducted by Movoto ranked Nashville, TN as the 4th most unhealthy city in America. The study first took a list of the 50 most populous cities in the country, then created criteria thought to contribute to a city being generally unhealthy. Some of these criteria were how many fast food restaurants per square mile, what percentage of population meets federal activity guidelines, how many people have diabetes, are obese or smoke and how many people have low access to healthy food.

With Nashville ranked so low, many residents have decided to do something to handle it.

Recently, the pastor of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, Enoch Fuzz, asked his congregation to practice healthier habits during the Lenten season, as opposed to giving up something. Some examples of how this could be practiced included taking more walks or eating healthier meats and cooking them in healthier ways such as baked as opposed to fried.

The Mayor of Nashville has also issued a challenge to the city to become healthier. Last year, Mayor Dean inspired the city to walk 100 miles with him and created walking events around the city. The Mayor's Office of Neighborhoods is now creating a Neighborhood Challenge for residents to be more healthy, green, and involved. The kick-off event for this will be held at the new Music City Center on June 22nd.

To further contribute to the city becoming healthy, the Music City Center will host the Healthy Living Expo September 28-29th. With admission at only $10, this expo is intended for all residents. The expo will focus on eating right and getting active.
