CHRISTOPHERS Family Funerals, leading independent funeral directors, recently celebrated their 175th anniversary.

Christophers’ Family Funerals, who have been caring for the local Devon community since 1846, is currently being managed by the 6th generation of Christophers.

Since its establishment in 1846, a lot has changed in the funeral industry. When the Christophers’ Family Funerals first came to be, village funeral directors were also expected to be carpenters and wheelwrights.

175 years later, Christophers’ Funerals are still helping families and friends organise respectful and tasteful funerals for their loved ones. Including religious or non-religious services for traditional burials and cremations, or eco-friendly green and woodland burials.

For five generations the Christophers’ Family Funerals have ensured continuity of service throughout.
As the business was passed from father to son and began to branch out to serve surrounding villages and communities in South Devon. This has continued to today, where the first daughter Caroline, 6th generation of the family, manages the company alongside her husband Tom and their son Oliver.

With 175 years in the industry, Christophers’ Funerals have ample experience, contacts, and connections within and around South Devon to ensure your service of choice is organised efficiently and respectfully at all times.

Tom, one of the company directors had this to say about the company passing this fantastic milestone: “It is an honour to be a part of such a highly-respected family business. We work hard to ensure all bereaved families and friends who come to us are treated with the highest level of care, and their loved ones are treated with respect and dignity at all times. We are proud to have hit the 175th anniversary of Christophers’ Family Funerals and to be part of the 6th generation of funeral directors.”

Christophers’ Family Funerals have two funeral homes, one in Newton Abbot, near where the business first started and one in nearby village Ashburton. Homelands Hall, Newton Abbot has an adjacent hall which can accommodate up to 60 people for a service of your choosing. The service hall is reminiscent of an old country chapel, with historic beams and oak doors featuring within the hall, giving a traditional ambience to the room. The hall is facilitated with a sound system and a screen for images to be displayed. Our Ashburton Funeral Home contains a chapel of rest as well as an arrangements room.

Christophers’ Family Funerals are accredited members of the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF Independent Funeral Directors), and work closely with SAIF Care offering further advice and support to those experiencing bereavement.
