  • (1888PressRelease) May 23, 2013 - A sick puppy leads the five-year-old owner on a journey of discovery and revelation in a new book by Christian author Cristal Baker.

"Popsicle Goes to Church" is the delightfully illustrated story of the puppy and owner as they both overcome the illness by faith. They find out that God is still in control and still can handle anything as the story comes to a happy ending.

For the author telling a story about God in a way that reaches little ones is the paramount reason behind the book.

"God is life," said author Cristal Baker. "As the creator, He is in charge of everything, including little girls and their pets. I wanted to tell children a story about God in way they can relate to. Children love puppies and children do have an understanding of what it's like to be sick. By bringing the two together, I hope this book will let them make a further connection to God."

The Bible does have many stories about God and many children do know these stories. However, some of those stories, like Jacob's Ladder as found in Genesis, may be a bit hard for smaller children to process fully, she said.

"Little ones think of a ladder leaning on a wall or the side of a building. They think in very concrete terms. Heaven, they think, is in the sky above them and they can get there with a long enough ladder. That's not right," she said. "But a sick puppy and having God help the little girl and the puppy is something they more directly relate to. They know when they get sick a doctor and their parents take care of them. In the same way, God takes care of all of us."

"Popsicle Goes to Church" is a story of an adorable five-year old girl whose faith, determination and love of her sick puppy leads her into a bit of a pickle, but it works out in the end.

The book is available at Barnes & Noble, Create Space and Amazon as a print and Kindle edition.
