China Updates Mandatory Standard for Flame Retardant Protective Clothing
China publishes new standard for flame retardant protective clothing GB 8965.1-2020 that comes into effect in August 2021.
- (1888PressRelease) November 14, 2020 - China updates its mandatory standard for flame retardant protective clothing GB 8965.1-2020.
The standard covers flame retardant protective clothing designed to protect the wearer from flame, sparking, and in flashover dangerous places with flammable substances.
The main technical changes include:
Revision and addition of normative references, some terms and definitions, requirements for stitch distance, requirements for seam strength for trouser back rise seam and shoulder seam, test specimen number for heat resistance and thermal protective performance, inspection rule and marking requirement. The test method of thermal stability in annex B of GB 8965.1-2009 has been revised as annex A of GB 8965.1-2020
Requirements for the following have been added:
o Knitted fabric and clothing
o Banned azo colorants and odor
o Lining,
o Flame retardant property of seams + new test method
o Seam strength
o Whole garment test against fire exposure on thermal manikin
Deletions include:
o Flame-retardant protective clothing of grade C and its requirements
o Requirement for bending behavior of fabric
o Annex A test method of thermal protective performance in GB 8965.1-2009
Issued by the Standardization Administration of China, the new standard was included in Chinas No. 18 announcement of newly approved national standards for 2020. It replaces the version iteration GB 8965.1-2009 and will come into effect on August 1, 2021.
