  • (1888PressRelease) June 02, 2009 - Datacraft, the region’s leading IT services and solutions provider, has been appointed by a China Telecom Subsidiary to overhaul the global communication infrastructure of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), a world-leading integrated international energy company. This US$2.5million contract will help strengthen CNPC’s competitive edge and further enhance China’s position as a key player in the global oil market.

One of the largest oil and gas producers in China, CNPC is also a major oilfield service provider and a globally reputed engineering contractor. Due to rapid expansion both at home and overseas, it needed to revamp both its communication and networking capabilities to cope with increased demand and speed up accessibility throughout all operational regions globally.

With offices in 48 countries across four continents, secure, reliable, round-the-clock network access is critical to the daily operations of the giant state-owned enterprise (SOE). Previously, international communication had been unstable and expensive due to the fact that many oil fields are in remote areas.

Datacraft was tasked with delivering a next-generation network infrastructure that offered a high level of availability and performance whilst reducing the total cost of operation. The ability to optimise recovery time for system and network failure was an also important requirement of the solution.

“This is the first global network to be deployed by a Chinese SOE, a milestone that underscores the commitment of local SOEs to expand beyond the Chinese borders. The significance of this project to China’s political scene and economy cannot be underestimated,” said Shum Mew Toong, General Manager, Datacraft China.

For a project of such scale and complexity, CNPC needed a global IT integration specialist that can seamlessly implement a comprehensive secure network and communications infrastructure. “Datacraft fits the bill with our extensive experience and proven track record in designing and implementing turnkey networks globally. Our client is confident that they could rely on us to deliver and support the project across their entire network globally,” added Shum.

The project included the installation of over 200 Cisco 7609/2821 routers throughout 76 cities in the 48 countries. Carriers from four continents will host an MPLS VPN network with termination in Beijing. The VPN will carry sufficient bandwidth to link up all the sites into one platform. More than 1,000 Cisco IP phones will be installed to connect all the major production sites, integrating high performance voice and data at a reduced cost. The new highly scalable network will offer the flexibility to support future applications such as videoconferencing and datacentres.

A multi-year maintenance services agreement is also included in this contract. This offers end-to-end technical support service to deliver optimum support for business operations – 24x7, 365 days a year – through expert troubleshooting and problem resolution for mission-critical IT systems.
