    1-day Intro to Fly Fishing
    • Taught by Geoff Malloway
    • January 13th, February 10th, March 10tht, May 5th, June 9th, July 14th, August 4th, September 8th, October 13th, November 3rd
    • 9:00AM to 4:00PM
    • $70/person (all equipment included)
    • 4 to 8 students. CLASSES MUST HAVE AT LEAST 4 STUDENTS OR THEY'LL BE CANCELLED.

    Learn how to survive your first fly fishing trip by learning the essential skills of fly fishing: tackle selection, knots, basic casts and line manipulations, reading the water, entomology and fly selection. Geoff Malloway's sensible approach to this course will help you build a solid foundation of fly fishing fundamentals and stimulate your interest in taking the sport to any level you desire.

    Saturday Morning Casting Clinics
    • Taught by Geoff Malloway
    • Held on the second or third Saturday of each month. Call to confirm.
    • 8:30AM to 10:00AM
    • $30/person (all equipment included)
    • 2 to 10 students CLinics MUST HAVE AT LEAST 2 STUDENTS OR THEY'LL BE CANCELLED.

    Whether you're a first-timer or an accomplished fly fisher, these 90-minute clinics will get you squared away on the basic casting stroke and various delivery casts or even fine-tune your ability to shoot line and double-haul.

    Beginning Fly Tying
    • Taught by Geoff Malloway
    • January 8th & 9th, February 5th & 6th, March 5th & 6th,
    • April 2nd & 3rd, May 7th & 8th, June 4th & 5th, July 9th & 10th, September 3rd & 4th, October 8th & 9th.
    • 6:00PM to 9:00PM both days.
    • $80.00/person (includes all materials)
    • Limited to 4 students.

    Using a straightforward teaching style, Geoff Malloway will help you learn the basic fly tying techniques needed to tie five popular trout patterns: San Juan worm, woolly bugger, hare's ear nymph, elk hair caddis and the adams. Geoff will talk about different tools and materials as they are used.

    Fly Fishing the Surf
    • Taught by Geoff Malloway and John Jordan
    • February 22nd, 23rd & 24th
    • March 22nd, 23rd & 24th
    • April 19th, 20th & 21st
    • May 24th, 25th & 26th
    • Friday night 5:00PM -8:00PM, Saturday from 8:30AM-10:00AM and Sunday morning (optional) from 6:00AM to 9:30AM.
    • $100.00/person.
    • Limited to 4 students.

    Monterey County beaches offer some of the finest surf fly fishing around. Get clued in on the tackle, casting, surf dynamics safety and target species. Students should be able to cast 30 feet, shoot line, have their own personal flotation devices and be able to swim.

    Sage Casting Clinic
    • Taught by Sage Instructor, Bill Lowe
    • April 14th
    • Location: CCFF
    • Session #1 (novice) from 8:30AM to 12:00, session #2 (advanced) from 1:00PM to 4:30PM
    • $75.00/person/session.
    • Limited to 10 students per session.

    This class is designed for the entry-level caster or the person who has been away from the rod for an extended period of time. Set-up of the rod, function of the rod, roll-cast, and over-head casting are the focal points of this 4-hour class. Sage 5-weight and 6-weight rods are provided for the students to use.

    Sage Beginning Trout School

    • $100.00/person
    • Limited to 10 students per session.

    • NO FIELD TRIP

    From stringing up the rod, discussing fly fishing essentials, tying three need-to-know knots, to roll-casting and over-head casting, this 7-hour class is the prefect one-step program to whetting a person's appetite for fly fishing.

    Sage Floating Trout Clinic

    • Location: Yuba River
    • 8:30AM -5:00PM
    • $150.00 per student
    • Limited to 4 students

    Students will spend the day learning the different techniques used for trout angling as they use a drift-boat to access a stretch of river as their classroom. Dry-fly, indicator-nymphing, tight-line nymphing, swing, and streamer tactics will be thoroughly discussed and demonstrated, while in close supervision with a highly qualified instructor / guide. Students must provide their own tackle.

    Sage Basic Spey Clinic

    • 9:00AM - 3:30PM
    • $150.00 per person. Equipment provided.
    • Limited to 6 students (need at least 4 students)

    Spend a full day learning the effectiveness of spey-rod casting and fishing in the ultimate classroom…the water. You will learn to cast both snap-T and double-spey, from either river-right or river-left directions, as well as gain a thorough understanding of the terminology associated with spey-rod fishing. From a broad selection of Sage Spey Rods in both the Traditional and European tapers, you'll have the opportunity to cast and feel each and decide which best fits your needs. Bill will provide customized instruction to improve your current spey casting skill level if you have prior experience.

    Sage Spey for Shad

    Are you thinking about wanting to learn to spey-cast with a two-handed rod? Here's a fun way to scratch that itch and probably get your line grabbed at the same time. Join Bill for an afternoon/evening of learning and fishing on the American River during the early summer shad-run. Learn and work on the basic spey-casts and then we'll put flies on our leaders and swing 'em in front of the shad....WHACK! Shad ON!
