  • Nashville, TN (1888PressRelease) July 20, 2010 - Centex Homes, a brand of PulteGoup Inc., today announced it has donated an additional 3.5 acres of land to Sumner County to be used for the Sumner County Greenway Project. To date, Centex has donated 11.5 total acres valued at approximately $250,000 for this project, starting with an eight-acre donation in 2007. The donation is part of PulteGroup's corporate philosophy to build life enriching communities, while making a positive impact on the environment.

The Sumner County Greenway project is part of the Lower Station Camp Creek Road Streetscape and Pavement Rehabilitation Project. The project's overall goal is to provide a 2.75 mile-long continuous shared path near the boundary between Gallatin and Hendersonville Tennessee. The path will offer opportunities for environmental, recreation and transportation uses. The Greenway offers a number of community benefits including parks, biking/walking trials, a creek and other water features. Additionally, Station Camp High School and Knox Doss Middle School will benefit from the Greenway, which provides new safer pedestrian friendly paths for students and the opportunity for outdoor classrooms.

"The Sumer County Greenway project is a noble undertaking we are thrilled to support," said Charlie Coleman, president of PulteGroup's Nashville division."It's completion will bring many benefits to the area including improved water quality, the restoration of native plants and vegetation to the area and the preservation of natural environmental systems. We are pleased to be part of this initiative."

Sumner County officials are grateful for Centex's generosity.

"We can't thank Centex Homes enough for its generous donation," said Sumner County Executive Anthony Holt. "The Sumner Country Greenway Project will significantly improve the recreational opportunities and quality of life for all area residents. This is a perfect example of how a good corporate citizen can make a lasting positive impact in the community in which it operates."

The land features the historic Douglas Clark House, which served as Sumner County's original courthouse and county hall from 1787-1790, which predates Tennessee's admittance into the union as a state in 1796. Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States, prosecuted cases in this historic building while serving as attorney general of the Mero District of North Carolina.

The recently donated land is adjacent to Centex's Creekside of Station Camp community in Hendersonville. Once complete, the community will feature 419 single family homes ranging in size from 2,205-3,778 square feet and priced from $168,990-$276,990. Creekside of Station Camp features a community junior Olympic size swimming pool with a children's splash zone and cabana and walking trails throughout the neighborhood.
