  • (1888PressRelease) May 08, 2011 - New Delhi, INDIA - Continental Device India Limited (CDIL), pioneers of manufacturing silicon semiconductor devices in India since 1964 launched their LED Product Division to extend the Indian Lighting Market.

CDIL LED Products demonstrate its commitment to promote advancement in next-generation lighting, and to lead the way in establishing LEDs as energy-efficient, cost-saving lighting that address the needs of energy management solutions. "Many countries have stopped usage of incandescent lamps due to low power factor. Very soon there may be a regulation on CFL usage due to disposal hazards. With shortage of power availability in India, there should be State initiatives to drive the Street lights and all other commercial lighting into LED Lighting - even if it involves subsidizing the manufacturers for initial few years. This subsidy would still be less than the money required to generate additional power." explains Pankaj Gulati, Executive VP & COO, Continental Device India Ltd (CDIL).

CDIL product line in India features an extensive LED Tube Light line, a high-efficiency LED Street Light line along with LED Bulbs and Solar Home Lighting Products. The LED Tube Light line includes the usage of SMD as well as DIP technology, which uses G13 sockets and fits into the existing FTL fitting. The usage of choke & starter shall be eliminated completely. The LED tube light consumes almost 50% less energy as compared to normal fluorescent tube light with 3-5 times more life. The large industrial companies, where tube lights are continuously running are moving towards LED tube lights resulting in a direct energy cost reduction. The hesitancy to change immediately is on account of higher cost of LED tube lights, which is expected to come down as the volume increases.

Design and Development capabilities nurtured at CDIL have resulted in truly world class products. Development of various LED Display board has also led to increase in the sales of CDIL LED Division. "LED Lighting has its share of challenges as it is more expensive compared to standard lamps and CFLs. How deep it penetrates is largely dependent on how affordable we make the LED product. This involves reorientation of standard processes and design to enable integrate optics, driver electronics and thermal dissipation all to be integrated into an affordable LED lighting products" says Pankaj Gulati.

CDIL LED lighting products offer a number of advantages over traditional incandescent or fluorescent lighting, including a longer product life. CDIL LED light operates for no less than 50,000 hours, which reduces power consumption and CO2 emissions. Additionally, CDIL products contain no toxic mercury substances such as those found in compact fluorescent bulbs.

CDIL products offer the following features:

    -- high-energy efficiencies,
-- long life and high reliability,
    -- high-color rendering,
    -- mercury free,
    -- low UV/IR radiation, and
    -- conforms to CE standards.

CDIL further plans to offer various solar based street lights and designer concept lights in the coming quarter to the Indian Lighting Market. "The segment of industrial lights is also new to the LED industry with its contribution being 1/10th of the LED market. However, the growth witnessed by this segment is about 20 per cent," informs Ravinder Gulati, Deputy General Manager, LED division, Continental Device India Ltd (CDIL).
