S3Edge's Spotlight Real-Time Visibility System was customized to deploy the web-based, hand-held and fork-lift mount applications needed to address Carrier's business needs. As uptime and reliability was a critical part of the overall application need, the new system is also a HA (High-Availability) cluster-aware solution.

"We selected S3Edge after evaluating solution providers based on their experience, and ability to deliver a mission-critical, large-scale enterprise application focused on the operator and the flow of work in our existing processes. Thanks to this approach and S3Edge's focus on delivering to commitments, the project benefits were realized within three months of launch with little to no re-engineering required. The system has been running live in a high velocity, dynamic manufacturing environment for over a year with no issues", said Balaji Suresh, Materials Manager, and project sponsor. "We will continue to build on this and expand use of RFID across our value chain" he added.

"The Carrier solution is a first of its kind enterprise application that showcases how a global Fortune-50 organization has transformed their operations using a mission-critical RFID-based tracking solution. The infrastructure investments that Carrier has made will enable a new wave of innovative applications that bring together Big Data and the Internet of Things to unlock new levels of operational efficiencies and insights not seen before; and that's an extremely exciting development for the manufacturing industry as a whole" said Anush Kumar CTO & VP Marketing at S3Edge.

The project comprised of multiple hardware technologies such as Speedway fixed readers from Impinj that were mounted in a gantry setup across all dock-doors, ruggedized Windows 7 tablet PC's from Xplore technologies that were fork-lift mounted on all shipping fork-lifts, metal mount tags from Xerafy to identify forklifts, hand-held readers from Motorola for mobile workflows, and converted Monza 5 SMARTRAC Short Dipole tags from WS-Packaging that went on the individual units, all working in concert with the S3Edge software.

"Carrier & S3Edge were able to achieve a very rapid ROI with numerous benefits in this innovative RFID application," said Kerry Krause, vice president of marketing at Impinj. "This is a great example of a complete, high impact solution leveraging the complementary suite of Impinj products including Monza tag chips, Indy reader chips and Speedway fixed readers."
