  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) May 08, 2013 - Candelora is excited to make their Los Angeles debut with a May 11 show at the Whisky A Go Go. The Whisky, in addition to nurturing countless L.A. bands since the early 60s, also provides the chance for out-of-town acts to showcase their music in front of tastemakers and movers and shakers.

Candelora hope to be one of those bands that win over the Southern California crowd with their emotionally and sonically driven style of hard rock. It is also their intention to break through to other U.S. cities like New York, Seattle, Houston and beyond. They know their job isn't finished in Canada either and Candelora plan to continue to build up their fan base there with an appearance at the NXNE Fest in Toronto in June.

Candelora calls the city of Calgary, Alberta home. For Americans, the very name of Canada conjures up images of snow, cold and remote wilderness... and hockey. That's not all Calgary is known for to be sure, but sometimes the best music comes from desolation and isolation. The band members are certainly not isolated. The relationships in the band have lasted for the lifetimes of its members. Three quarters of Candelora are related by blood: drummer, Lucas Klapper, and lead guitarist, Cory Klapper, are brothers and lead vocalist and guitarist, Mike Ferraro, is their cousin, and childhood friend, Kit Shepetys, plays bass. Familiarity may breed contempt for some, but it also makes for tight bands.

Candelora got its start 2006, when the group first came together as a five piece called Constant Season. Constant Season played some higher profile gigs including one opening for Pearl Jam at the Virgin Festival in 2009. In 2010, the band pared down the line-up to the current quartet and changed the name to Candelora. The name is in honor of Lucas and Cory's Grandmother who had that unusual middle name. She passed away during the recording of their debut record, also named Candelora.

The self-titled album was recorded by award-winning Toronto producer, Douglas Romanow, and mastered by the legendary Bob Ludwig (Beetles, Bruce Springsteen).

The music of Candelora, as showcased on the album and in live venues, has been compared to Gas Light Anthem and U2. The Irish arena rockers, in particular, are a big influence on their music. With lyrics inspired by the death of loved ones and relationships, both failed and successful, their other inspirations come from films and novels as well as the music of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bruce Springsteen and Pink Floyd.

Candelora's music is available from iTunes, CD Baby, Tunecore and Melodiya Records in Calgary, AB.

To get a good idea of what their live show is about, Candelora has some clips posted on Youtube that captures their sound live at the Gateway in Calgary, AB. "No Dream is Ever Just a Dream" (, "Matching Crowns" ( and a cover of the Cranberries hit "Zombie" ( are available for viewing on their channel.

Check out the clips but don't just watch this band on Youtube. Take advantage of this early chance to see a young, developing band in a club atmosphere like the Whisky provides. You may be kicking yourself a few years from now at this lost opportunity, because Candelora is moving on and up with or without you. They'd prefer it was with you.
