  • (1888PressRelease) October 12, 2012 - Oakville, ON - Paul DeAngelis, owner and lead guide of Mountain Climbing Adventures and co-owner of fitness studio Total Balance, was instrumental in Spencer West's fundraising climb up Mt. Kilimanjaro this past July. For anyone such a climb would be daunting, for West the weight of the climb rested not only figuratively but also literally on his shoulders. Having had both his legs amputated as a child, West completed the majority of the climb using only his hands. When approached by Marc and Craig Kielburger to lead the climb eight months prior, Paul jumped at the chance to help support West and Free The Children's quest to raise $750,000 to bring clean water to communities in Kenya. West's story and Paul's involvement with the climb were documented and recently shown at the Toronto International Film Festival. Paul and his wife Christine de Bellefeuille, a co-owner of Total Balance and pilates expert, not only attended as guests of West, but also walked the red carpet.

Paul began guiding climbs up Mt. Kilimanjaro as part of his business in the mid-nineties and has climbed it himself 40 times to date. His company, Mountain Climbing Adventures, also organizes climbs to other magnificent parts of the world, including Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail in Peru; the Acongagua on the border of Argentina and Chile; and even to certain elevations of Mt. Everest in Nepal. These climbs are catered to everyone; those looking to push their personal limits and enjoy the pressures of a challenge, as well as those looking to challenge themselves with rigorous terrain, but also looking to enjoy the beautiful landscapes while relaxing with a post-hike massage.

Spencer's climb was not Paul's first in support of a worthy cause, to date Paul and MCA have helped raise over $1,000,000 in support of charities worldwide, including an orphanage in Arusha, a city near Kilimanjaro and the Canadian Foundation of Infectious Disease, for which he helped to raise $250,000.

When he is not guiding for MCA Paul is either in Oakville working as a dedicated trainer and instructor at Total Balance, the fitness studio he co-owns with wife Christine, or he's flying all over teaching the Pose Method, a system of teaching of human movement that has helped elite athletes improve in all types of sport all over the world.
