  • (1888PressRelease) April 11, 2012 - BELLEVUE, Wash. and VENICE, Calif. - Videogame development studio Camouflaj, LLC and world-renowned production company Logan began today a month-long Kickstarter campaign dedicated to funding development on the ambitious upcoming iOS game République. Camouflaj, comprised of veteran talent behind such brands as Metal Gear Solid, Halo, F.E.A.R. and Kinect, and Logan, responsible for the award-winning "Silhouette" iPod ad and the Skyrim television spot, are partnering to put players directly into an ambitious narrative set in a shadowy, secluded nation state.

When protagonist Hope contacts the player directly through the game on their iOS device, pleading for help, they're challenged to hack into the facility's surveillance network and guide her through intense "stealth survival" gameplay scenarios as Hope embarks on an escape from an oppressive, dystopian world.

"I love the 1984 overtones of the story-a dystopian sensibility is something I normally gravitate to. The game concept is a perfect fit for us," says Alexei Tylevich, founder of Logan. "It feels great to be working on something meaningful that pushes the video game medium."

République is designed to utilize the unique input methods of touch-based mobile devices. Pioneering yet-to-be-announced technology to power its intuitive controls, République promises to bring a thrilling action gameplay without simulated touch-screen joypads.

"As if doing a story-based, big-budget iOS game wasn't risky enough, we're putting République's fate in gamers' hands. The global community will decide if we were right in assuming that gamers want serious, thought-provoking interactive entertainment experiences on the go," says Camouflaj's Ryan Payton. "Thanks to the boldness of Kickstarter, Tim Schafer and Double Fine, we're entering an industry revolution. Ultimately gamers will decide if they want a game like this."

République's 31-day Kickstarter campaign has set its funding goal at $500,000, roughly half of the game's development budget. The campaign launches with a bold trailer that shows the world that République isn't just an idea-it's a game that the founders have poured their own money into to begin production last fall.

Running at just over a minute and a half, the debut trailer features footage from the "proof of concept" gameplay demo built over the past three months. Taking place midway through the game's campaign mode, Hope sneaks into the Overseer's office in an attempt to gather information on how to find her freedom. Players guide her through a thrilling getaway, only to be reminded of the Overseer's omnipresent power at the conclusion of this hard-hitting trailer featuring audio design and mixing from Hollywood-based Soundelux DMG and voiceover direction from Kris Zimmerman Salter.

The République trailer is accompanied by a three-minute documentary helmed by Electric Playground's Victor Lucas, offering a sneak peek at the comprehensive behind-the-scenes videos his Vancouver-based Greedy Productions is preparing alongside the game's development. "Ryan Payton is clearly one of the most ambitious and exciting game developers working in the industry today," says Victor Lucas, Greedy Productions' CEO. "I can't wait for the world to get their hands on République and to see for themselves what creative powerhouses Camouflaj and Logan really are."

République is scheduled for a summer 2013 release on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
