  • (1888PressRelease) May 13, 2022 - LOS ANGELES - In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, California artist and mental health advocate, TrustyScribe launched his solo exhibition, “ReBIRTH ETERNAL” intended to capture the tranquil moments just before sudden change.

Multi-disciplinary artist, TrustyScribe, utilizes a diversity of mediums, techniques, and forms in order to best serve the creative process. The artforms with which Trusty has been involved include street art, photography, writing, dance, and filmmaking. He made his first stop motion short film at age 8 and, as an adult, went on to work in numerous aspects of entertainment including development, writing, acting, directing, and producing.

It's interesting that with such a rich artistic history and career, Trusty only began identifying as an artist several years ago when he picked up his first can of spray paint. After photographing and documenting street art for over 15 years, and while in the midst of a major depression, he began spray painting walls with the first of what would be many thought-provoking word bubbles reading, “PLEASE EXCUSE MY DEPRESSION, IT HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN”. His street art had an immediate and profound impact, allowing Trusty to feel heard at a time when his voice was stifled. This work, full of compassion and love, served as a tool that allowed others to open up about their own personal challenges with mental health.

TrustyScribe’s latest body of work, “ReBIRTH ETERNAL”, is a series of large underwater portraits on silk and metal, measuring four by six feet. The silk mimics a rippling water effect while the metal provides a reflective quality on which the image changes as the viewer moves around it. Says Trusty, “This [large] scale draws the viewer into the tranquil majesty of the image, making it undeniable. It asks to be studied, to be experienced, completing the full circle creative process where the serenity of each image can wash over and transport the viewer.”

The images, rich with the symbolism of a child in the womb, provoke feelings of peace designed to inspire an awareness of our collective experience. Water communicates new beginnings, cleansing, re-birth, the signal of one chapter ending and another beginning. Speaking to the underlying themes, Trusty states, “It’s okay to acknowledge our own fragility and our need, from time to time, to return to a safe, childlike place.”

Trusty, who found mental health advocacy through his street art, continues this conversation with “ReBIRTH ETERNAL”. The artist embraces our collective humanity and need to feel safe and loved, believing, “There is a grace in this peace, which we can embrace as we continue to evolve and grow.”

“ReBIRTH ETERNAL” is available for viewing from May 6 - May 31 at the BFree Studio Art Gallery in La Jolla, CA. During the exhibition on May 15 from 4-6pm PT, TrustyScribe will also hold an Artist Talk to discuss his experience, his journey, and his latest body of work. Additionally, on May 19th from 7-9pm PT, TrustyScribe and a mental health expert from Vista Hill will hold a discussion on mental health. Find more information about the exhibit here.

About TrustyScribe: TrustyScribe is a multidisciplinary street artist, photographer, writer and filmmaker inspired by the human spirit. As a mental health advocate, Trusty sparks conversations about wellbeing to lift the stigma on mental health. His work, visual and literal poetry, touches on our universal truths with a wit that is honest , beautiful and at times deeply emotional. He is eternally curious and views the world with a childlike wonder, which he infuses into his work as a reflection of our collective human experience.

A California native, Trusty was born and raised in the cultural melting pot of San Francisco. He moved to Los Angeles for the entertainment industry, and as a true creative, embraced his unique outlook on the world as a director, producer, writer, creative director and artist. He believes that there are no limitations for a creative, no single role nor medium, as they are all tools for self-expression.

Trusty is a lifelong photographer who documented street and artists for decades before becoming a street artist himself. TrustyScribe, born out of a severe depression, began painting word bubbles across Los Angeles and then the world. This new outlet imbued with messages of love and compassion resonated with people from all walks of life. His work has been photographed thousands of times all over the world and been seen by millions, and in 2021, The Today Show produced a profile on Trusty for Carson Daly’s mental health series Mind Matters.

As a growing extension of Trusty’s creativity, his focus turned to underwater photography several years ago. Water has always been a source of passion and tranquility for him. The power and magic of water historically has played an integral role in cultures and religions the world over as our key to life. This universal truth is the source of inspiration for Trusty’s underwater work, tapping into the symbolic and literal life that water has given to our planet. We can immerse ourselves in water and emerge clean and new, again, and again, and again.
