  • Baltimore, MD (1888PressRelease) March 28, 2021 - The Boy Scouts of America Troop 460 along with the Cub Scouts of Pack 460 officially wrapped up its Annual Scouting for Food Campaign. The Scouts took to the streets collecting donations from Mt. Airy neighborhoods in Carroll County to benefit the Mt. Airy Net, a local food pantry.

This year the Scouts created a socially distant safe pick-up option by having town residents place bags full of non-perishable, non-expired food on their doorsteps for easy pick up. Once all the food was collected the Scouts then worked together to sort, organize, and weigh the food before delivering it to the Mt. Airy Net.

Troop 460 has been participating in this effort for decades, and tens of thousands of pounds of food have been collected in that time. This year, they were thrilled to shatter all previous records with a total of 6,648 pounds of food collected in one campaign!

“Thank you to everyone in our community for doing their part to make this happen. We asked for your help and you generously delivered!” said Anissa Hastings, Troop 460 Membership Chair. Scouting for Food is a great example of how our Scouts, parents and leaders come together with local residents to make a positive impact in the community that they love.”

Jim Morton, Scoutmaster for Troop 460 said “Troop 460 has been an integral part of the Mt. Airy community for decades and through those many years we have always dedicated ourselves to assist Mt. Airy organizations like the Mt. Airy Net. Our dedicated Scouts and Leaders has enabled us to provide the necessary pantry supplies to provide those in need in the Mt. Airy community.”

“The National Scouting for Food drive is a fun and meaningful annual event for our Scouts.” Said Steve D’Amato, Troop 460 Charter Organization Rep. “Troop 460, sponsored by Calvary United Methodist Church is very proud to be part of this very successful food drive each year. The residents of Mt. Airy are very generous and together we are continuously leaders with the volume of food pounds given each year. This food drive replenishes the shelves of Mt. Airy Net which distributes to those in need in our community.”

Boy Scouts of Troop 460 has served Mt. Airy Since 1949. They take pride in their education and outdoor programming for the Scouts and love providing Eagle Scout Projects and participating in community outreach & events that add to the charm of their hometown. All while having fun & learning life skills that will take them into their bright futures.
