  • (1888PressRelease) May 20, 2011 - "Without the many thousands of sales professionals who work in the private and public sectors, very little would happen to increase the £1.2 trillion worth of goods and services bought and sold in Britain's economy annually," said Stephen Wright, Commercial Director of the Institute of Sales & Marketing Management (ISMM), the UK's largest association for sales professionals, which organises the awards.

"BESMA - the 'Oscars' of the sales world - honour the cream of the sales profession," he added, "and it's a profession which is becoming increasingly professional, skilled and ethical, as more companies establish sales academies and ally them with the ISMM's qualifications.

"Winning one of these awards is a tough challenge because it demands fulfilling the industry's most demanding criteria, demonstrating an outstanding track record and completing a rigorous examination of sales skills. Encouragingly, this year's competition prompted a 30 per cent increase in nominations for an award - and the judging process was tougher than usual.

"This suggests that not only are salespeople in Britain taking their profession seriously and continually striving to improve their skills but also that the UK is developing some of the highest skilled salespeople in the world," said Wright. "Moreover, as well as recognising individual and team achievements, the Awards help to raise the profile and reputation of the whole profession.

"We're delighted that these Awards can take place - to officially recognize Britain's sales proficiency - and so we're grateful to this year's BESMA sponsors: The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph, Royal Mail, De Vere Hotels, Virgin Media Business, Maddison Media, Campaign Master, The Sales Management Expo, Ellis Salsby, Meta Lucid and Principal Hayley."

The winners of the awards will be announced at the BESMA gala dinner, being held at the Lancaster Hotel, in London, on 26th May. For details about tickets to this event, call June on 01582 840001 or visit the ISMM website: www.ismm.co.uk
