  • (1888PressRelease) October 28, 2010 - Amid post-GFC pressures local restaurant Enchiladas Mexican Cantina was able to maintain its track record in winning Best Mexican Restaurant in Brisbane again earlier this year by using Bartercard Trade Dollars to save cash expenses.

Bartercard member for 11 years, Enchiladas Mexican Cantina Owner Peter Mackay acknowledges that the last two years were tough and would have been tougher if it weren't for the second income stream it gained through Bartercard.

"The last 12 months in particular was a struggle, however we've been able to convert this downtime in our business into Trade Dollars then buy the things we needed through the Bartercard network, offsetting our cash expenses, saving us cash," Mr Mackay said.

"Over the last two years we improved our bottom line by up to 8%," he said.

"We prioritised Trade Dollars (over cash) to buy the essentials like wine, fruit and vegetables, graphic design and printing of menus, plant hire and much more."

Bartercard Managing Director, Brian Hall, said Bartercard was delighted that the network could assist a small business such as Enchiladas to continue being profitable by making full use of their business downtime.

"This is a great success story for us too and is a sound example for other businesses especially in this recovering economy," Mr Hall said.

"A good barter relationship is when about 10% of your total income is from Trade Dollars,"

"We offer a T$5,000-T$25,000 interest free line of credit to all our new members but this can be increased depending on your level of trading," Mr Hall said.

Enchiladas Mexican Cantina has a track record for receiving high prestigious industry accolades including Best Mexican Restaurant in Brisbane 2010, State Finalist for Best Specialty Restaurant in Queensland 2010, Best Family Restaurant in Brisbane 2008, State Runner Up for Best Family Restaurant in Queensland 2008 and other Business Achiever Awards since 1999.
