  • (1888PressRelease) May 21, 2021 - SGS has published an overview of two new Brazilian ordinances that came into effect on May 3, 2021. These documents regulate two specific categories of juvenile product:

    • Children’s strollers – Ordinance No. 167 of April 13, 2021 (167/2021) ‘Approving the Quality Technical Regulation and Conformity Assessment Requirements for Children’s Strollers’
    • Feeding chairs – Ordinance No. 168 of April 14, 2021 (168/2021) ‘Approving the Quality Technical Regulation and Conformity Assessment Requirements for Children’s Feeding Chairs’

Originally published in April 2021 by the Brazilian Ministry of Economy/National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO), these legislative documents consolidate the technical regulations and conformity assessment requirements for both product types. They follow a similar structure and contain provisions relating to, inter alia, scope, premarket requirements, market surveillance, technical regulations and conformity assessment requirements, and use of the ‘Conformity Identification Seal’ (CIS).

Upon their effective dates, they repealed:

    • Ordinance Nos. 167/2021 ‘Strollers’: INMETRO Ordinance Nos. 315/12, 351/2012, 494/2015 & 222/2016
    • Ordinance 168/2021 ‘Feeding Chairs’: INMETRO Ordinance Nos. 683/2012, 51/2013 & 227/2016

Stakeholders wishing to learn more about the ‘Quality Technical Regulation’ (Annex I) and ‘Conformity Assessment Requirements’ (Annex II) contained in Ordinances 167/2021 and 168/2021 should review SGS’s original SafeGuard 058/21.
