  • (1888PressRelease) May 19, 2011 - It is 10 years since the International Year of Volunteers in 2001 and the anniversary is being marked with volunteering organizations world-wide promoting the values of volunteering and helping individuals to realize their potential to make a real difference by sharing their time, skills and experience.

In a recent survey of current and past volunteer travelers, over 75% of those interviewed selected SOUTH AMERICA as their preferred continent.

And of those, 65% commented that BOLIVIA - the poorest South American country - would be their first choice destination.

In recognition and support of IYV+10, BOLIVIA VOLUNTEERS, based in Cochabamba, has added several new placement opportunities to its portfolio, including the SANTA CRUZ ZOO VOLUNTEER PROJECT.

Commenting on the introduction of the project, Willson Marshal, Bolivia Volunteers Administrator says,

´This is a very exciting time for us here at Bolivia Volunteers, and in the short time since we introduced the project at the Zoologico Municipal Fauna Sudamericana we have been amazed by the number of inquiries and offers of assistance we have received.

´Of course we have offered projects caring for neglected and abandoned domestic animals for many years, but the prospect of being able to spend time at the Santa Cruz Zoo with our indigenous wildlife - puma, llama, carpincho, sloth, ojaki, tapir, pink dolphins, flamingo, condor and many more - has really fired the imagination of our volunteers.´
