I started reading Blinders on Sunday afternoon and literally couldn't put it down until I finished it at almost midnight that night. The story grabbed me in the very first chapter and the twists and turns kept me turning the pages all day, eager to find out how the story would unfold. The detail and development of the characters, their story, and its historical context left me wanting more…. If you're tired of the formulaic novels of so many popular authors today, you'll find Blinders to be a refreshing change.

This book touched my heart deeply. What a wonderful story of survival and hope. The human spirit is decidedly apparent in this story. Just anxious for a "part 2" to the writing. For those looking for a refreshing view of life and the hope that we have in the Lord, here it is.

Awesome book!, 5 STARS By Suzanne R Connel
Blinders captures your attention from the very first page. The characters are well-developed, flaws and all. As the story unfolds, it gets harder and harder to put the book down. The growth of the characters and their relationships inspires one to invest in other people. I loved this book!

Blinders, a Christian novel written by Kristy Shelton, is set in Kentucky in 1912 and chronicles the life of eleven-year-old Eugene who is led to the farm of a former slave couple, Franklin and Rachel Hawkins. They live in a ramshackle house built atop a Kentucky cave, yet have magnificent thoroughbred horses in their beautiful bluegrass pasture. Eugene is adopted into the loving family and gradually discovers difficult secrets from the past that have kept the Hawkinses isolated on their remote farm. Eugene is severely tested when at age 16 he is seized from the farm and forced into the Great War now raging in France. He embarks on a dangerous journey that will put his life and faith to the test. When he returns two years later as a man, his only hope is to give his incredible burden of guilt to the One who can save him and allow a mother's unconditional love to help him fulfill his destiny.

Shelton's meticulous research shines through to even the casual reader. From the description of the Kentucky landscape to the authentic World War I troop movements and even actual WWI letters, Shelton captures the essence of the time. Her personal Author's Note included at the end of the book is nearly as intriguing as the novel itself.

    A book I couldn't put down! 5 STARS By MD80
Once I started reading Blinders I had a hard time putting it down. After every chapter I kept saying, "just one more." I loved the characters and the way the story flowed so easily. It was such a neat surprise at the end to read the author's note telling about the characters who were true to life people in her family. In some ways, I wish I had known that at the beginning--it made me want to go back and reread the middle section of the book. I'm recommending this book to all of my friends and to anyone who loves a great story.

A must read! 5 STARS By catrina baldwin
As an avid reader and fan of historical fiction, I was engrossed in this story from the very beginning. The characters captivate and draw you in as their lives unfold before you on the pages. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to lose themself in a story that will leave you feeling inspired and one that you won't soon forget. I can't wait to see what journey Kristy Shelton will lead us on in future books.

Historical fiction at its best! 5 STARS By mjackson
This book had me hooked from the first chapter. I fell in love with the characters and could not wait to see what would happen next in their lives. The book revolves around a Christian family that continues to have faith in God despite abuse and racial violence. The story has twists and turns that are unexpected and kept me engaged. I would love to see Blinders part 2 and see how Eugene and Anne's relationship turns out!

"I have always enjoyed history, family folklore, and adventure," said Shelton. "The combination of these gave me an incredible amount of joy as I wrote Blinders. I pray that readers will be blessed. All for Him."
