  • Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) October 23, 2010 - Lou Jurkowski, FAIA and CEO at BJAC, pa (http://www.bjac.com), an architectural firm offering professional services for specialized, complex institutional projects, has announced that the North Carolina History Center will open publicly on Oct. 22. Located in the historic downtown of New Bern, the History Center is located at 529 South Front St., sited beautifully on the Trent River.

BJAC coordinated the design and construction of the Center, including extensive site design and innovative exhibits. The building's design is modeled after the grid pattern of the New Bern town plan created in 1710, including the wharves and warehouses that once filled the downtown harbor, and the regional 19th and early 20th century commercial architecture.

As a green-designed project, the History Center is targeting LEED Silver, a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Its design features wetlands to filter stormwater run-off, an underground cistern to capture rain water for irrigation and replenishment of wetlands, and many regional and recycled building materials.
