  • (1888PressRelease) December 13, 2016 - Birkbeck, University of London is announcing the launch of its new 1-year January intake Cert HE programme in Life Sciences in Subjects Allied to Medicine. The Cert HE is open to students who want to start their studies later in the academic year. Designed specifically for BSc Health and Life Sciences related BSc Entry and careers, the course awards successful students a Cert HE in Life Sciences in Subjects Allied to Medicine upon completion and prepares successful graduates for a career within Health, Life Science and Medical related areas in Physiotherapy, Sports Science, Osteopathy, Pharmacology and Pharmacy, Audiology & Speech Therapy, Biomedicine and Biochemistry, Nutrition and Dietetics,Occupational Therapy, Radiography Nursing and Midwifery, Dental Nursing, Medicine, Veterinary Science,and Dentistry.

    The course also allows fast track entry to the Birkbeck BSc in Biomedicine: Students who pass modules in the first two terms in June 2017 will be able to transfer directly to the first year of the Birkbeck BSc Biomedicine degree which starts in September 2017.
    The Certificate of Higher Education in Life Sciences for Subjects Allied to Medicine is ideal for applicants/ students who lack a formal science qualification. The Cert HE in Life Sciences Allied to Medicine is at first year undergraduate degree level and is ideal for those interested in a career in the Health and Life Sciences related fields.

    The Certificate is also suitable for graduate students who wish to apply to Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary degrees.

    The Certificate is an intensive 1 year course at first year undergraduate level at level 4 and is held in the evenings in Central London. Students start their studies in January and study for two terms until June and then come back in the autumn of that year in September. Students are further supported by tutors throughout the summer break in preparation for their last term of study.

    Taught in London on the Birkbeck campus at Malet Street, London and validated by the University of London, this unique programme offers a solid foundation in life science and health related subjects allied to the medical professions.

    The Certificate in Higher Education for Subjects in Life Sciences Allied to Medicine is the only evening based integrated Life Sciences qualification offered in the South East for people who are interested in progressing to a health and medical related career.

    Students gain access to fully equipped laboratories for the Biology and Chemistry modules. In addition to the academic teaching, students are supported throughout the course by an experienced team of tutors enabling students to progress from beginners to undergraduate level standard in Life Sciences. Students do not need to have a background in the Life Sciences as the course is designed to teach students from pre - A level standard which enables students to rapidly progress over the duration of the course. Many admissions tutors for degrees at other institutions will refer their future applicants to us first.

    Students are supported by tutors who is there to provide careers and progression advice and to give guidance on applying for Degree courses via UCAS. This is an important part of our in-house career support service that enables students to craft their application for Degree entry. Students receive personal statement preparation via the personal planning and development module which is also studied as part of the certificate - this is the career planning aspect of the Certificate which has been built in for the benefit of students. Throughout the course students are also advised regarding the various progression routes open to them whilst studying for their Certificate.
