  • (1888PressRelease) September 21, 2011 - Valencia, Calif - Bioness, manufacturer of The NESS L300® Foot Drop System and the NESS L300® Plus System, announced today its participation in the 2011 American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA) National Assembly September 19 - 22, in Las Vegas. AOPA is the country's largest show for orthotics, prosthetics and pedorthics professionals.

Bioness will be showcasing the NESS L300® Foot Drop System and the NESS L300® Plus System, which was recently cleared for use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), during AOPA. Both advanced rehabilitation systems use mild functional electrical stimulation (FES) for the treatment of foot drop. Foot drop is a partial leg paralysis that prevents the foot from lifting, causing difficulty walking and instability for people recovering from a stroke, or affected by other central nervous conditions such as a spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, or multiple sclerosis.

Both the NESS L300® Foot Drop System and the NESS L300® Plus System can be used for mobility rehabilitation in an inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation setting as well as in the home to help potentially realize a variety of clinical benefits including improving mobility, maintaining or increasing range of motion, re-educating muscles and preventing or slowing muscle loss.

Worn on the leg, the L300 has three main parts: a comfortable, lightweight functional stimulation cuff which fits just below the knee and contains electrodes to provide stimulation to underactive muscles; an innovative Intelli Sense Gait Sensor™, which attaches to the shoe and senses foot position, changing terrain and walking speed; and a wireless, portable control unit, which adjusts the level of stimulation.

The newly FDA-cleared L300® Plus System builds on the proven success of Bioness' L300 Foot Drop System and is designed to additionally stimulate the muscles of the thigh. The addition of the thigh stimulation cuff, synchronized with a wireless heel sensor to detect when the foot is on or off the ground, controls the knee, making it easier to walk.

Both the L300 and the L300 Plus will on display at booth number #517.
