Early alpha in the game development cycle means it an early version of the game that is still being tested and does not yet contain all the features that the final version will have. It is normal for the alpha version to be unstable or have bugs.
Closed beta is the next phase of testing in which a select number of players are invited to test the game. Beta testers can expect a more stable version of the game but many features are still being tested and may be changed before the commercial launch.
