Beppe Borella’s contemporary sculpture “Creepy Coupe” showcase by San Polo Art Gallery

San Polo Art Gallery, located in Venice’s historic San Polo district, was founded in 2021 to enrich the city's cultural landscape.
- (1888PressRelease) July 14, 2025 - We are pleased to announce the presentation of Creepy Coupe, the latest sculpture by artist Beppe Borella, on view in the gallery’s Venice space starting July 10, 2025.
This unique piece depicts a miniature car, crafted entirely from marble through the meticulous assembly of individually carved blocks. Each component is sculpted, polished, and fitted with millimetric precision. A craft matured into mastery brings forth a reality in motion. A familiar shape, built from iconic visual memory elements, evokes the aesthetics of play and construction. But here, nothing is light, nothing is temporary. The wheels truly turn, yet the solid material and sculptural labor subvert the object’s childhood lightness, transforming it into a reflection on form, time, and memory.
The sculpture replicates a playful object, but removes it from the logic of consumption and childhood, returning it to the slow rhythm of matter and the permanence of the sculptural gesture.
Beppe Borella is a contemporary sculptor born in Bergamo in 1972. His artistic journey began with metalwork, thanks to his early experience as a blacksmith. A pivotal moment in his development was his collaboration with renowned artist Giuseppe Uncini, with whom he worked on large-scale iron and concrete installations, refining both his technique and artistic vision. It was through these “heavy” materials that he first discovered marble—a timeless and noble medium that transformed his sculptural approach. Blending traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary perspective, Borella creates bold, ironic, and powerful works, sculpted from high-quality marbles sourced from around the world. The interplay of light and shadow, form and material, lies at the heart of his artistic language.
