  • Dallas, TX (1888PressRelease) January 10, 2015 - Bell Nunnally & Martin LLP has elected R. Heath Cheek as a partner, effective January 1.

    "Heath is one of the firm's rising stars and his professional and personal accomplishments have truly distinguished him," said James Skochdopole, managing partner of Bell Nunnally. "We look forward to great things as Heath continues to develop and refine his practice."

    Cheek is a member of the firm's Litigation; Labor, Employment and Benefits; Creditors' Rights;
    and Intellectual Property practice areas. His practice focuses on trials and disputes, representing clients from Fortune 500 companies to small businesses and high-net-worth individuals in industries including energy, financial services and real estate in various litigation matters.

    Accomplishments include securing a $3 million judgment from a Texas state court on behalf of an investment advisor who brought a case against a private equity firm after advising on the acquisition of an oil and gas pipeline company and obtaining a favorable settlement for a high net worth client in a FINRA arbitration involving a complex options trading strategy.

    Outside of the courtroom, Cheek chairs the SFT Raffle for the State Fair of Texas (SFT) - the largest annual event in the state which provides close to a $1 million a year in scholarships for inner-city Dallas and rural Texas students attending in-state colleges and universities. He also chairs the Dallas Museum of Art's Junior Associates and previously chaired its largest fundraiser, Affair of the Art. Cheek is also on the Board of Directors for the Dallas Christian Legal Society.

    Actively involved in politics, Cheek is the deputy finance chairman for the Republican Party of Texas, chair of the Republican Lawyers of Dallas and Dallas co-chair of the Maverick PAC (Political Action Committee).

    A graduate of Baylor University Law School (J.D., 2006) and Texas Tech University (B.A., 2003), Cheek is active in his alumni communities. In 2014, he was elected to the National Board of Directors for the Texas Tech Alumni Association (managing close to 35,000 alumni members and advocating for his alma mater), building on his presidency of the Texas Tech Alumni Association of Dallas, and, in part, thanks to accomplishments such as the 2008 founding of the Texas Tech Quarterly Business Briefing - a speaker series/low-income student fundraiser featuring area business leaders which has raised close to $200,000 in scholarships.

    In 2014, Cheek was selected by his peers as a "Texas Rising Star" and featured in Texas Monthly. In 2013, Cheek was chosen as one of the Dallas Business Journal's "40 Under 40," and in 2011, he was named one of the "Five Outstanding Young Dallasites" by the Dallas Junior Chamber of Commerce.
