  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) September 19, 2013 - Beach Terrace Care Center will be commemorating Child Health Day on October 7, 2013. In 1928, President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed this day, the first Monday in October, to be a national day of observance, meant to increase public awareness of child health issues.

Every year, organizations who are involved in childhood wellness are urged to join together in honor of Child Health Day to help increase awareness of child health issues such as prenatal care, injury prevention, immunizations, and healthy lifestyle.

American healthcare organizations hold events to provide communities with necessary resources to improve childhood well being. The Health Resources and Services Administration offers a wide array of information for parents and schools about many issues, including child obesity prevention and healthy lifestyle choices. Today, according to the Center for Disease Control, approximately one third of American children and teenagers are overweight or obese. This rate is now nearly triple the rate in 1963. Obesity in childhood increases the likelihood of health problems later in life, such as diabetes.

"Children are most definitely our future, and while our residents are not children, they were once, and the events of their youth still echo today in one from or another. It's remarkable to think that we can almost eliminate certain conditions just by taking the time and care to help our children now," remarked Ari Silberstein, administrator at Beach Terrace Care Center.

Named one of America's Best Nursing Homes of 2013 by U.S. News & World Report, Beach Terrace Care Center is a 182-bed premier skilled nursing facility, specializing in dedicated treatment options for residents from short term rehabilitation to long term care. Located at 640 W Broadway, Long Beach, NY, mere feet from the beach, Beach Terrace Care Center provides personalized care for each resident.
