  • (1888PressRelease) November 07, 2012 - San Francisco, California - The Kill was born during the post-grunge 90's San Francisco music scene. The band's music was inspired by the stark punk sounds of the Suicidal Tendencies and the raw and funky vibe of The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Guitarist Haji and drummer B.O.B. - longtime band mates who met while working at a local music shop in San Francisco - first began their musical partnership in rap metal group Joe Mama and later in the underground glam slam punk outfit S.F. Dogs.

Both bands were visible in the late 80's and early 90's independent music scene out of the Bay Area. After the demise of the Dogs, guitarist Haji - fresh off of an audition for the Red Hot Chili Peppers and harboring a love of 70's funk music - responded to a music ad placed by bassist Otto (who listed Rage Against the Machine and RHCP as two of his influences). The two became fast friends and formed a group called Merchants of Chaos, rounding out the lineup with drummer B.O.B. and rapper/lyricist MC Brad.

The Kill was officially formed in 1995 with the departure of Brad and the addition of singer-lyricist JAX. The group went to work on music for an album which was recorded - but never released. All but forgotten for almost 17 years, Haji has gone back to the vault and, together with his former band mates, has selected 7 tracks from the original Brick House Studios recordings, culminating in The Kill's eponymous, long-delayed debut.

Mastered and released to the public for the first time in 2012, the EP serves up punk, funk and rap-laden hard rock songs - and serves as an impressive time capsule, showcasing a band that was on the cutting edge of what would eventually become known as the rap-rock genre, later fueled by multi platinum bands such as 311, Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit, Saliva and Linkin Park.
