  • Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) October 28, 2011 - The litigation boutique Baldassare & Mara, LLC, has established new headquarters at 570 Broad Street in Newark. Attorneys Jennifer Mara and Michael Baldassare created the firm in April of this year to provide high-quality legal services on criminal and civil matters. The firm services individuals and corporations in the federal and state courts of New Jersey as well as other jurisdictions. Core practice areas include criminal defense and civil litigation, internal investigations, and subpoena compliance.

"Our new offices are very convenient for clients and put us in close proximity to federal court as well as the busiest county court system in New Jersey," said Mara. "Establishing our headquarters in this landmark building in Newark is a clear reflection of our commitment to clients and who we are as a firm."

Prior to creating the firm, Baldassare and Mara worked together at Gibbons P.C., one of New Jersey's largest law firms. "Both Jennifer and Michael are known for their quality work. They have a track record defending high-profile clients charged with criminal violations, specifically in the area of white-collar crime. Jennifer also possesses unique experience in complex commercial litigation cases at both the federal and state level," noted Robert Scrivo, President-elect of the Essex County Bar Association.

Innovative Business Model for Law Firm Utilizes Advanced Technologies and Cloud Computing

By capitalizing on advanced operating technologies, Baldassare & Mara has established an innovative business model within the legal industry. The firm utilizes cloud computing and outsourced clerical services in its work for clients from referring lawyers as well as direct business.

"The economies of this type of operation allow us to provide the same comprehensive legal services as larger firms but more cost effectively," Baldassare explained. "The legal industry has traditionally been comprised of a wide range of firms, many quite large or mid-sized. However, we believe ours is a great model for the future, particularly in response to the recent recessionary economy combined with the dramatic advances and new opportunities in technology and through the Internet."

For example, the firm created a proprietary program, CLIX-Net, to allow clients to immediately access key documents and information related to their legal matters. This is accomplished with a secure portal on the firm's web site. "CLIX-Net ensures that each of our clients can access the important documents in his or her case in real-time. It's a true game-changer in how a law firm delivers client service," added Baldassare.

Founders Focus on Distinct Practice Areas and Cases

While Baldassare and Mara share a common vision for the firm's boutique market niche, they have different backgrounds and specialized practice areas. Mara is the managing partner and majority shareholder. She manages the firm's civil litigation practice and also focuses on the defense of clients in criminal matters. Mara has represented individuals and corporations in antitrust, fraud, and RICO matters, as well as disputes involving matters of contract law. In the past, she served as a law clerk for then Magistrate Judge, now District Judge Claire C. Cecchi, U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.

Baldassare practices criminal law. He has represented clients in trial-level matters and with internal investigations involving allegations of mail, wire, bank, health care, and tax fraud; money laundering/structuring and counterfeiting; RICO; bribery; extortion; public corruption; visa fraud and related immigration offenses as well as cases in connection with the Arms Export Control Act. His cases have also involved charges of attempted murder, weapons crimes, drug crimes, as well as child pornography offenses, human trafficking, and sex trafficking.

Both Baldassare and Mara are actively involved in numerous legal organizations such as the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey (ACDL-NJ) in which Mara is one of its youngest trustees and Baldassare currently serves as an officer. He is also chair of the sentencing subcommittee of the American Bar Association's criminal litigation committee. Both graduated magna cum laude from Seton Hall University School of Law.
